How to save a PDF file using Illustrator 10

Note: If you have access to Acrobat Professional (not Acrobat Reader), and are using Mac OS 9, see the instructions for creating PDF files with other graphic applications.

Converting Colors

• Make sure your ad conforms to Source Interlink Media's Digital Guidelines; specifically, all spot colors must be converted to process.
• To do this, open your Illustrator file and choose Select > All then choose Filters > Colors > Convert to CMYK for color ads.
• For black and white ads, choose Filters > Colors > Convert to Grayscale instead.

Document Raster Effects Settings

• Choose Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings...
• Under Color Model, select CMYK for color ads or Grayscale for black and white ads.
• Next, match the settings displayed here

 

Flatten Transparency

• Choose Select > All
• Then choose Object > Flatten Transparency
• and match the settings displayed here...

Save As

• Choose File > Save As...,
• a Save As dialog box will appear.
• Name the file and choose the folder in which you would like the PDF to be saved.
• Choose Adobe PDF (pdf) as the format and press Save.
• An Adobe PDF Format Options dialog box will appear

• Match the General settings shown here:

F Adobe PDF Format Options

• Change the settings options from General to Compression in the pop-up menu.
• Match the Compression settings shown here and click OK:
• A PDF file will be created.
• Be sure to compare the PDF version the ad with the original version
